DAF and Appreciated Stock Donations

What is a Donor-Advised Fund?

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a simple, tax-efficient way to make a lasting charitable impact. By contributing to a DAF, you may be eligible for an immediate tax deduction, allow your charitable assets to grow tax-free, and recommend grants to nonprofits over time—providing flexibility and greater impact on your philanthropic journey.

 

How to Give through Your DAF

  1. Log in to your DAF provider: (Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard, etc.)

  2. Search for: Solana Beach Schools Foundation (EIN: 33-0206854)

  3. Choose your gift amount and submit the grant.

  4. Optional note: “For Discovery Labs/Enrichment”

  5. Notify Us: Please email or call us at executive.director@sbschoolsfoundation.org, 858.794.7180 so we can acknowledge and put your gift to work quickly.

Appreciated Stock Donations

​

Donating appreciated stock may offer tax benefits for eligible donors. Depending on your individual circumstances, donating appreciated securities directly to a qualified charitable organization may allow you to avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation and, in some cases, receive a charitable deduction based on the stock's fair market value.​​

How to Make Your Stock Gift

  1. Contact Your Broker: Inform your financial advisor that you wish to make a charitable transfer of securities.

  2. Provide Transfer Details: Instruct your broker to transfer the specified shares directly to our brokerage account using the details below:

    • Brokerage Firm: JP Morgan Chase / Account of Charles Schwab

    • Account Name: Solana Beach Schools Foundation

    • Account Number: 59385380061345737

    • DTC Number: 0164

  3. Notify Us: Please email or call us at executive.director@sbschoolsfoundation.org, 858.794.7180 to notify us of the transfer. Provide the stock name, ticker symbol, and number of shares so we can properly identify and credit your gift once it arrives.
